Our Initiatives

Samuel "Mingo Jack" Johnson was the victim of New Jersey's only documented racial terror lynching. On March 5, 1886, Mr. Johnson was assaulted, brutally beaten, and murdered at the Eatontown lockup after being accused of assaulting a white woman. No one was ever held accountable for the murder of Mr. Samuel Johnson. Our Community Remembrance Project (CRP) Initiatives include a Soil Collection, High School Essay Contest, and a Historical Marker installation and dedication.
