The New Jersey Social Justice Remembrance Coalition held its Racial Justice Essay Contest on March 5, 2022 - the date that Samuel Johnson was lynched - at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lincroft, NJ. The ceremony featured the Roots and Wings Drum Choir of the UU Congregation, words from EJI Representatives Michaela Clarke and Cyan Blackwell, and readings from the two First Place Winners of the essay contest. Afterwards, we were treated to an extended panel discussion moderated by the Essay Contest Committee chair, Annah Kuriakose. We would like to extend a sincere congratulations to all the students who participated in the contest and we celebrate the wisdom that was on display through the written words and the facilitated discussion. Finally, the New Jersey Social Justice Remembrance Coalition would like to thank the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lincroft for hosting this important event. Stay tuned for photos and footage from this amazing awards ceremony.
